General notes
The photograph shows the demolition of the Majestic Hotel in 1975. The demolished building then became the site for the Majestic Court apartments. Following the publishing of this image in the Lytham St Annes Express in June 2010, Mrs Ruth Baxendale of St Annes told us..... "....on January 11th 1975 her late husband JD Baxendale (Baxi) and Arthur Powell were interviewed by North West Television News outside the pier entrance and viewers could witness the demolition of the Majestic. On being asked for his favourite memory of the hotel Baxi said - 'Saturday night in the Grill Room having Lobster Thermidor'. The hotel was the venue for all the prominent winter dances - North Drive Tennis Club always had their events there. The Fylde Horse Club held their very first dance there on April 30th 1948 after the hotel was re-opened. Afternoon tea dances were held there in the winter months. Sixty years ago Fred Morris and Eva Lawless held ballroom dancing classes at the hotel."
