The front of Gawthorpe Hall, Padiham. This Jacobean house was the home of the Shuttleworths and Kay-Shuttleworths before becoming a museum in the 1970's. It contains original seventeenth century panelling and plasterwork in the Drawing Room as well as period Victorian rooms showing how the family would have lived in the 1890s. Resigned by sir Charles Barry, the architect of Houses of Parliament, the Hall also has fabulous furniture, paintings and the Gawthorpe Textile Collection displays as well as the Long Gallery.
