General notes
"Roman Catholics Protest against Education Bill" There is no information other than the caption on the image but it is possible that the image dates from 1st July 1906, when the Burnley Express (4.7.1906 p. 3) reported that for the first time in 7 years the Catholics of the town had a walking day, not just as a pageant but also with the intention of protesting against the Education Bill. Over 5,000 people were said to have marched in a procession which took an hour and a half to pass by. All the parishes were represented. The location of the image is unknown. In October 1906 there was also a huge gathering of some 50,000 Lancashire Catholics in Manchester to protest against the Bill.
