The Bay Horse was one of Accrington's earliest inns and was in existence before 1751, the date which appears on the rear of the building. Early in the 19th Century an extension to the rear of the building provided an assembly room which became the principle meeting place in the township.
The Bay Horse ceased to be a licensed house in 1920
