A Cinema giant was trying to wriggle out of building a 1,500-seat, six-screen cityplex in Lancaster centre, it was claimed this week. Village Cinemas International (VCI) - the Australian group behind the scheme - cited trading difficulties, among other problems. The news came less than a month after the ABC in King Street, Lancaster shut, leaving the city with no commercial cinema.
