St Annes on Sea
These sunken ornamental gardens are on the promeande just north of the pier. Some of the "Porritt" houses can be seen in the right of the image.

They are now the site for the statute of Lancashire Comedian Les Dawson who died in 1993 and lived in Lytham St Annes for many years.

The "Porritt" houses on the North promenade were built by William John Porritt who was a director of the St Annes-on-the-Sea Land and Bulding Company and served as its chairman from 1881-1896. (see "St Anne's on the Sea, a History" (2008) by Peter Shakeshaft (p.160-162))
