St Annes on Sea
The image shows some of the "Porritt" houses along the North Promenade in St Annes. The house in the far left of the picture was under construction at the time and is situated at the junction of the promenade and Beach Road. This is Wimbledon House and the Barrett's 1895 Directory of Preston and Fylde Districts shows that this was the residence of Mr Robert Taylor Boddington, of the famous brewing family. It subsequently became the Royal Hotel which was demolished around the 1970s.

The "Porritt" houses on the North promenade were built by William John Porritt who was a director of the St Annes-on-the-Sea Land and Bulding Company and served as its chairman from 1881-1896. (see "St Anne's on the Sea, a History" (2008) by Peter Shakeshaft (p.160-162))
