General notes
Ribble Motor Services Bus Station in Tithebarn Street, Preston, in the early 1930's. The beginnings of this station comprised a plot of land and a garage taken over from Pilot Motors Limited in 1926, adapted for use as a bus station in 1927. Further land and buildings were acquired later in 1927 and thewhole was reconstructed and enlarged in 1930 to form the station with cash, district traffic and area superintendent's offices over the main loading platforms. The building on the right hand edge of the picture was acquired and demolished in 1933, to enlarge the parking area and the buildings in the middle of the right of the picture were acquired and demolished in 1937 to improve the passenger areas. The premises were vacated in 1969 when the base for the Company's operations from Preston was moved to the Preston Corporation's bus station. The old bus station which during the 40 years of its history was used by the hundreds of millions of passengers arriving from and departing to all parts of the North West and many destinations throughout Britain was demolished and the new Guild Hall has been constructed on the site.
