Lostock Hall was occupied by several generations of the Clayton family until it was bought by Henry Dewhurst (cotton manufacturer) in 1881. After his death his company gave the hall and land to Preston Royal Infirmary as a convalescent hospital. In 1985 it became St. Catherine's Hospice.
