In the centre of the photo is the Towneley land agent, William Steward, standing next to a chair is Alice Edmondson, Lady O'Hagans companion. The woman sitting on a chair is Caroline Roslyng, the housekeeper. The man standing on the left is John MacKay, the butler. He became the first curator when Towneley Hall became a museum in 1903.
