General notes

The first planned street in Accrington, built by a co-operative building union- hence the name. These cottages bore the date 1787. Those on the right were demolished in the 1930s, while the left hand row, beginning with Carter's plumbers, remained until the 1950s.
This was later the site of the Blackburn bus stop, until the opening of Peel Street bus Station. The gate between the two rows was the entrance to Union uildings Mill, demolished 1937. In the 1960s the area behind the cottages became a car park, and public conveniences were built close to this spot. The Methodist Sunday School, (far left) was later used for municipal office accommodation.
