Orlando Greenwood (1892-1989) was a painter, designer and draughtsman, born in Nelson, Lancashire. From the age of 13 he worked in his uncle’s cotton mill. After studying at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art and Army service in World War I, in the 1920s Greenwood became notable as the mill worker-turned-artist, famous for his still lifes and classical set-pieces. He gave up painting in 1967.
