General notes
The interior of Christ Church, Chatburn is still easily identified today. The original organ has been replaced by a modern electronic keyboard. Some of the furniture has been moved. This includes the imposing lectern, a fine brass eagle that can be seen in the photograph and was presented by Mr Ralph Assheton, of Downham Hall, when the church was enlarged. This is a copy of the original from Newstead Abbey Nottinghamshire. It was discovered in a lake at Newstead in the 18th century, having, probably been thrown there two centuries previously during the dissolution of the monasteries. It also includes the font that has been moved to the front of the nave. It was presented to the church in 1902 by Mrs Watney and Mrs Musson in memory of Mrs Margaret Elizabeth Robinson who lived at the Manor House.
