General notes

This shop was opened in c1886 by Scottish businessman Paul Lyon Nicoll. Mr Nicoll had previous experience of running a successful drapery and over the next three decades he expanded from this shop at 15-17 Manchester Road to two further premises in the town. These were located on St. James's Street and Chancery Street.

In c1906 his son, Conrad joined the family business. After his father's death in c1930 he took over the Manchester Road shop, which by now was the only one left. It closed c1955.
