General notes
The Co-op Shop building on Wheatly Lane Road at Fence, celebrating the 50 year Jubilee .
The Co-op was opened in 1875, and this photograph shows its celebration of 50 years. Whilst no longer the Co-op, the premises still serve as the village shop. In the early half of the 20th century the village was relatively self-sufficient. Records from 1902 show there being 4 grocers, 2 butchers, a boot and shoe maker and a "stocking knitter".
