Astounded locals opened their front doors and were shocked to see the elephant which was part of The Sir Robert Fossets Jungle Circus that was taking place in Baxenden. The animal had arrived in Accrington by train and travelled the rest of the journey on foot. Also appearing in the circus were lions, lepards, jaguars, pumas, bears and kangaroos
