General notes
Single Cylinder Beam mill engine. There was no record of this engine, but the connecting rod was almost certainly made by Wm. Roberts, Nelson, probably replacing the original cast iron one, (most of Roberts' connecting rods were forged with a similar centre boss). It had long carried more than the designed load; being combined with a horizontal pusher engine, probably having a new crankshaft to take this when the pusher was added. Except for a new governor, it was otherwise as built, and certainly ran for over a century, retaining the original crank race railings, and flywheel casting. The shed was refitted with automatic looms, which had built in motor drives and the engines and shafting were scrapped in the early 1960's.
