The Silver Casket contains a scroll commemorating the building of Cottage Homes and Jubilee Cottage Hospital in 1900 by William Pickles Hartley. He had established a jam making factory in Colne but in 1874 left Colne for Bootle where he started the manufacture of jams. In 1886 he moved to Aintree.
