General notes

This image shows Reedley Colliery, also known locally as Barden Pit. The colliery was sunk in 1879. A pair of 192 metre shafts accessed the Arley mine and the Dandy and King mines after 1910. The company linked the pit underground to Bank Hall colliery before 1893. Its pit head baths, which opened in November 1914, were the first in East Lancashire and only the second in the country.
