The reverse of the postcard reads:
"You will see by this P.C. that Old Tatt's house at Roggerham as been burnt to the bottom he was giving at Nelson a lecture when he returned at night he found that is house had been broken into and was on fire. he put it out (as he thought) and went to bed and later the whole house was on fire he escaped just in time (this is Old Tat's tale but many people at Burnley think that the fire is his own work to get a bit of sympity. wishing you a Merry Xmass Arthur".
