The 1861 Derby winner Kettledrum, owned by Colonel Charles Towneley. This horse also ran second in the 2000 Guineas and the St Leger. Kettledrum's winning Derby time was 2 minutes 43 seconds was a new record for the event. Reports say that Burnley punters were celebrating for a week.
