General notes
Photograph has a comment written at the bottom which states: [Liverpool Courier] Lancs. County Cricketers. [Picture Postcard] Dean. At the final jump before coming down to let one go one of the very best unsuspected fast ones. Adjacent to the photograph is located an obituary which reads: DEAN, Harry (1884 - 1957) Cheshire and Lancashire. Suiting his methods to the conditions of the pitch and play. Harry Dean would bowl either his left-arm fast medium with its deceptive swerve, or slow spinners. Eight times he took more than a hundred wickets in a season, and was generally at his best in the 'Roses' match. Against Yorkshire at Aigburth in 1913 - a special match arranged to coincide with the visit to Liverpool of King George V - he captured 17 for 91. His only Test appearances were in the Triangular Tournament of 1912 and at the Oval against Australia in the first 'timeless' Test in England, where he took 4 for 19 and the visitors were skittled out for 65. He was also a League cricketer of note. First-class career (1906-21): 2,448 runs (10.28) and 1,301 wickets (18.14). Test Matches (3): 10 runs (5.00), 11 wickets (13.90) and 2 catches.
A second photograph and obituary is to be found on the library card EBU/W126/23.
