General notes
Benjamin Thornber, was a cottage cotton weaver, originally from Rimington who wove yarn into cloth with his family. He moved to Burnley with his family when the cottage industry was becoming more difficult because of the competition from powered looms. He had his own spinning shed which expanded against the odds, and this became B Thornber & Sons situated at Daneshouse Mill and later Holmes Mill, Clitheroe.
