School Court showing the rear of cottages and shops in the lower part of Church street, later replaced by the premises of Moffitt Brothers, drapers. (numbers 8 - 12). The gable end belonged to St James School. The photograph is taken from a water colour drawing in the possession of Mr Joseph Barnes, the artist of the picture. It was executed c 1886, when Mr Barnes lived here as a boy.
