In 1910, four 64 lb RML (58cwt) guns and carriages - old pattern guns which came from the War Office, and cost £6.17.00 each - were presented to the Corporation by Mr Henry Parkinson, known as "Accrington Friend and Wellwisher", Councillor J R Cameron, Councillor R Watson and the borough surveyor.
The 5th Lancashire Battery RFA assisted in the removal of the cannon from the railway station to the Coppice. The guns were sent for war salvage during the second world war.
