The railway line from Accrington to Burnley Barracks Station was formerly opened for traffic after approval by the Government Inspector, Captain Wynne, R.E.. the first train left Burnley at 07.30 a.m. on Monday 18th September 1848, and in those early days twelve trains each day was a sufficient number for the traffic involved. Bank Top Station , shown here, opened on the 1st December, 1849 and this photograph shows the not so busy scene in 1890.
