A photograph looking down Howe Street from the old market square towards the Scarlett Arms. The property was constructed as a house c1855 and was converted to a pub c1860 to commemorate General James Yorke Scarlett. It was closed on 24 December 1913 "with compensation" , according to the Chief Constable's report in Burnley Express 7 Feb. 1914
