Organ and interior of Westgate Congregational Chapel.

Two stone staircases led to the galleries, which occupied the end and two sides of the building. The organ was set in a semi-circular which was 14 feet deep, spanned semi-circular arch 20 feet wide and 30 feet high. The level of the organ-gallery was 3 feet 6 inches below the lowest platform of the galleries. The front of the organ-gallery projected 3 feet into the chapel, and in front of this was the pulpit, the floor of which was 5 feet 9 inches above the ground floor.

Westgate Congregational Chapel was founded in 1859. The Chapel opened in July 1861. It closed in 1972.

The organ was rebuilt at Ivy Bank School by a group of pupils under the direction of woodwork teacher Mr Michael Mansfield and music teacher Mr Malcolm Bulcock. The headmaster, Mr Charles Brunton said it was hoped to use the organ for morning assemblies when it had been completely rebuilt. Malcom Bulcock MBE learned to play the organ when he persuaded elders at the old Westgate Congregational Chapel to allow him to repair and play their old pipe organ.
