General notes
The Mitre Works garage was located next to the Westgate - Trafalgar Street junction by the canal. It was one of the first motor engineering works in the town when it was set up by F. Groom in c1910. In c1925 it was taken over by James E. Whalley, who was the proprietor when this photograph was taken. The business lasted until c1940 when it was demolished. (This is one of a set of three such photographs M89/31/32/33).
