Pit Head machinery Woodhead Colliery. The colliery was situated in Reedley Hallows in Burnley. The colliery was opened in 1912 and closed in 1959.
The Woodhead mining museum is situated on the site now.

Service, one capstan for pump rods geared to winding barrel.
Other, man riding for shaft inspection.
The photograph shows table engines, maker unknown.
Cylinders 12" x 2' 0 slide valves.
12' 0" to top of frame flywheel 7' 0" diameter.
These were unusual in that the whole was contained within the side frame castings, as a rule the table was supported from the bottom bed, but in this, it was supported by the side frames. One of the two table engines was for shaft inspection only, and was less heavily built. Woodhead was the upcast shaft for Bankhall pit in Burnley and had a winding engine with a 30" cylinders.
