The image shows Sir John Brooks, who as joint owner of Brooks and Pickup, a Burnley based firm, began coal production from the main shaft at Towneley Colliery in late February 1869. They also operated the Towneley brick works.
Thomas Brooks, 1st Baron Crawshaw 15th May 1825 to 5th February 1908, was a British peer. Of Crawshaw Hall, Lancashire.
