The following information is given on the reverse of the photograph/card.
Cylinders 10" X 2' 0" slide valves.
Flywheel 6'0 diameter- to 10'0 crankshaft centre.
Service, tub haulage on pit bank by moving chains.
This was the travelling chain haulage system which was little used in later years outside of the Burnley area. The engines were very plain, the frames comprising single castings which were bolted to massive timbers at the top. Several hauling points were driven from a vertical shaft and bevel wheels to drive chain barrels at points up to 60'0" away, by shafts below the yard floor, the tubs being traversed by hooking them to the moving chains, by slip hooks. The tubs were traversed around the pit bank to the screens and back to the colliery winding shaft over heavy gradients in this way.
The photograph is dated 1936.
