Steam engines at Bank Hall, (1867-1971).
This view of the 18' diameter fly wheel from the low pressure crank shows the joint between the two castings. The drive ropes to the fan can be seen at the top right. The teeth around the inside rim were engaged by a lever operated pawl which was used to turn the engine by hand to get it into a starting position. The connecting rod has been cut and removed and the crank pin bearing has swivelled revealing a gunmetal gravity lubricator. The 'banjo' of the crank pin bearing lubrication system is also clearly displayed although the feed cup is missing.
