Edith Watson in about 1947. Born in 1886, Edith was the chairperson of the Burnley and District Hospital Management Committee. Not only did she hold this role but she was on the local education board and worked on a number of other health committees in the Manchester area.

She received her O.B.E. at Buckingham Palace for her work in local health and education. Her grandson David, became a doctor and later opened the Edith Watson maternity unit at the General Hospital. Edith passed away in 1963 aged 77.
