Mrs Sarah Smith, MBE, JP in about 1957. She was the wife of Mr Sam Smith, headmaster of Todmorden Road School 1930-1957. They married in 1946 (see Burnley Express 21/12/1946, p3). She contested a seat for Burnley Ward in 1947 (Burnley Express report 21/06/1947, p1). her son Major John Colston Babbage RAMC received an MBE. She was always called Sadie. See also Burnley Express 25/6/1949, p5.
