Born 1775 High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1825 Married Miss Ormerod of Ormerod House where he lived the greater part of his life. Died 1834. His elder daughter married the Re. WM. Thursby and his younger daughter married GEN. Sir James Yorke Scarlett of Balaclava fame. The Hargreaves family were virtually in control of the local coal industry as owners of Hargreaves' collieries.
