General notes
Alderman William Dickinson, J.P. was elected the Mayor of Burnley on the 9th November 1898. He died 20th February, 1929.

Butterworth and Dickinson began life in 1780 on Parker Lane as a wool warehouse, founded by Jeremiah Wilkinson. The firm, diversified and focused on ironworks producing textile machinery and remained in Wilkinson hands for five generations but the last of them, Samuel Wilkinson, had no sons so the textile machinery-making business was taken over by his two nephews, John Butterworth and William Dickinson. The company locally was known as Butts and Dicks.
