General notes
The church was fouded in 1886 as a branch of the Haggate Baptist church and was organised on Presbyterian lines with Elders to act as pastors and Deacons to be responsible for finances and the general oversight.

The late Abraham Altham paid for the premises, a man who was born in relative poverty but who in a few years became the richest man in Burnley up to that time. The travel agency he founded is still trading today.

The first Elders were Thomas Bannister and John Greenwood whose descendants are still assosciated with the church.

The Sunday school was started in January 1887 and in 1910 a new schoolroom was opened. The organ was added in 1939.

In 1936 the jubilee was celebrated and the Sunday school jubilee in 1960. The centenary was celebrated in October 1986.
