Founded in 1872, the dedication ceremony took place on St Luke's Day, the 18th October. Due to lack of care of the building by 1886 it was in poor state of repair, from a leaky roof to dry rot in the nave. In 1888, a programme of refurbishment commenced at a cost of £1,200.
