General notes

The mill is Proctor Brothers' Spring Mill in Barrowford Road, (now Wheatley Lane Road), Fence. James and William Proctor leased the mill in 1885 and eight years later bought it outright from the Wheatley Lane Manufacturing Company. The following year they extended the weaving shed and built a new engine house and offices. Weaving continued at the mill until the then owners Panaz Ltd moved to new premises at Hapton. The site is now occupied by housing.
