General notes
They lived at Pollard Row, Wheatley Lane and were known as "Worsthorne Johnny and his little shuffling wife".
John was a farm hand and he also peddled blacking for clogs. He died about 1910.
Every evening they would go to the "Swan" to fill up a gallon stone bottle (with screw top) with beer. After drinking it, would settle to sleep on the hearth, not in a bed. They sold pegs from door to door. This information was supplied by Richard Sharp, Lower Spen Farm (Quoting his grandmother) 11.11.81.
