Farmed at Rothwell Heights for 35 years. A member of Accrington Local Board, and elected to Accrington Borough Council in 1878, and served until 1885. He was also a member of the Board of Guardians for 12 or 13 years to 1888. He was a life-long Weslyan Methodist and a Methodist local preacher.
