General notes
These are 18th Century cottages, the building at the end was known as the Dandy shop. The upper room was originally a handloom weaving shop. In 1829, the Weslyan Methodists occupied it, continuing to do so until 1835, when they built their own Chapel, named Athens on the hill by one methodist. The old cottages at Top Row are of a different style, they stand below road level, and approached by flights of stone steps, typical of the 18th Century.
