General notes
The traditional game of "Knur and Spell" originated from Yorkshire but became popular throughout Northern England. Players were alleged to play in front of up to 10,000 people. The game could be referred to an old method of golf. The aim of playing Knur and Spell was to put the knur (ball) into a spring loading device. The apparatus threw the ball into the air when the player touched the trigger with his pommel. The player would then needed to strike the knur as it flew through the air.
