General notes

This house was built by Daniel and Dorothy Barraclough in 1763. Inscribed on a tablet over the door are the arms of the Birtwistles, a latin inscription meaning, "Let glory be to God on Earth", and the names of the Barracloughs. The tablet would be brought from Huncoat Hall when the original hall was demolished, to make way for the present farmhouse. Daniel Barraclough, from Burnley, married Dorothy Birtwistle, daughter of Oliver, the last of the family to own Huncoat Hall, in 1749.
