General notes
Appleby Mill was built in 1827-8, then extended in 1872 and demolished in 1968. It ceased milling in 1920 becoming part of Enfield Soap Works in 1922. The mill was halfway on the Leeds Liverpool canal, the Appleby family having their own fleet of barges to transport their products.
