Wagon parked outside Lamberts Timber Yard advertising the Palais de Danse, Springbank, Nelson.

The building housing the Palais de Danse was opened in 1909 as a skating rink. It was known as the Springbank Skating Rink. It went over to dancing as the Palais de Danse on the 18th December 1920. However, it became Springbank Roller Skating Rink again in 1933 (Friday May 26th) and skating continued there until 1940 when Lamberts Timber Merchants, the owners of the rink, required it for their business in connection with the war effort. It remained a timber store until 12th-13th April 1958 when it burnt down.
