The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor and Mrs. Richard Watson, decided to hold a garden party in Oak Hill Park for mothers and babies, the first such event since 1917. Over 700 mothers and babies attended, and all the babies received a medal on a blue ribbon to commemorate the day. This is a photograph of the parking of the prams in front of the Museum in Oak Hill Park, of which there were 360 prams parked of all makes and sizes. The prams were all ticketed and arranged in front of the museum, and the overflow extended down both sides of the main pathway.

The Mayor is seated in the centre background, presenting medals to the incoming mothers and babies. The park gardeners, with H. Knowley the Town Hall keeper, are in the centre foreground.
