General notes
Mitchell Reservoir During the Drought (1929)
This photo is of Mitchell's reservoir during the dry spell of October 1929. The bed of the reservoir is seen as it had never previously been known. Great caution was exercised in the use of the water supply as the shortage was serious. This reservoir lies on the slopes of Hameldon, along Black Moss, Low Moor farm, an old homestead dated 1665 of the Halstead family is to be seen in the distance. The Halstead family were also living at Mitchell's in 1869. The water from this source is of good quality, soft with traces of iron compounds, drained from the peat bogs lying upon the Millstone Grit rocks, which top the hills in the vicinity
