General notes
Ann, the daughter of Henry Riley of New House was forcibly abducted in 1609, by John Ainsworth of Knuzden Hall, for which he was sued at the Chancery Court. The present house was erected by Evan Riley in 1668, later owned by the Kenyon and Royd's families. Harveys long occupied it. The interior still retains the open arch fireplace, with its inglenook. A modern range has been inserted in the recess, but the wide span of the arch of the original fireplace has been left clear. [Notes by Richard Ainsworth, 1917]
